Sky

Picture
Current economic conditions are a major factor of dog relinquishment with the rising costs of living forcing many owners to make the difficult decision to surrender their pets.  And Sky's owner was among those who had to prioritize their own basic needs over their pet.

Sky
is a stunningly handsome Retriever mix (possibly a Flat-Coated Retriever) with a super shiny black coat with a contrasting blaze of white on his chest.  Flat-Coated Retrievers are a very intelligent dog  breed that responds well to training. They are good choices for most anyone with an active lifestyle and will typically get along well with children and other pets in the house.  Sky loved playing with his buddy, Stuart, as you can see in this video.

Like most young dogs, Sky has fun energy and is a terrific retriever.  As soon as he sees a toy, with his faves being balls, he tries to catch them in mid-air. He usually brings it back but sometimes he wants to play keep-away like a silly guy and will eventually drop the ball so he can retrieve again.

Like many dogs who come from less than ideal backgrounds, this sweet love muffin is a diamond in the rough.  But worry not, Sky is with a professional trainer right now who will start him on his way to becoming the best dog he can be, and his adopter will be able to communicate with the trainer once Sky is home.  With some dedication to exercise, consistency, and discipline, his adopter will find the Sky's the limit with this wonderful guy!

Our volunteer in AL, shares, "Sky loves treats, likes to be petted, and enjoys rolling in the grass.  The more time I spend with Sky, the more kissy and affectionate he has become!  I'm very fond of Sky-guy!  He will make a terrific companion for active owners."

Sky is estimated to be about 1.5 years of age and weighs around 55 lbs but could use a few more groceries in his tummy.  He has been neutered, brought up-to-date on vaccination, and microchipped.   Sky is heartworm negative and has been given a Proheart-6 injection for 6 months of heartworm prevention.

Sensational Sky will be headed north in mid-April to be directly adopted.  If you are approved to adopt through SGRR, please contact Cheryl to be considered to adopt this adorable fellow.  If you are not yet approved, visit our website to fill out an application.  Sky is a loving guy who is ready to bring brightness to his new forever home.

Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to take on whatever comes with the dog. It is up to YOU to continue the rehabilitation we have begun. This is what it means to rescue.
