Merle
Merle is already stealing hearts with his quiet charm and playful personality. Picked up as a stray and now safe in our rescue, Merle is believed to be about six years old and weighs 55 pounds. This handsome dog has a black coat with a splash of white on his chest, a touch of white on his chin, and adorable white-tipped paws that make him look as though he dressed up for the occasion. You can see how handsome Merle is in this short video.
Merle is eager to explore and shows a playful spirit with puppy bows and zoomies. One of our rescuers shared, "He's like a colt! He kicks his front legs out like a buckin' bronco when he does zoomies! It's very unique and cute!" While toys don't seem to impress Merle much yet, he clearly enjoys companionship. He's friendly with the other dogs and seems happiest simply being near kind people. We are unsure about Merle's history with children and cats, but so far, he has shown himself to be gentle, friendly, and eager for kindness. He also loves to watch birds, often pausing with curiosity to take in their every move.
Merle gets around well and keeps his kennel clean. He can be a little hesitant with head pats at first and prefers gentle body pets instead. Merle has a thin frame that we hope will soon fill out with regular meals, love, and proper care. Once Merle gets a much-deserved spa day, we know this handsome fellow will shine. One thing is already clear, this sweet boy deserves a soft bed, a loving family, and a future filled with security and love.
Merle has been neutered, brought up-to-date on vaccinations, and micro-chipped. He will be starting heartworm treatment and should be ready to travel north to be directly adopted in late June. Merle has been given a Proheart-6 injection for 6 months of heartworm prevention.
If your heart has room for a loyal companion with a tender soul and playful spark, Merle may be the perfect addition to your life. If you are approved to adopt through SGRR, please contact Mary to be considered. If you are not yet approved, visit our website to fill out an application!
Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to continue the rehabilitation we have begun. This is what it means to rescue.
