A True Rescue Story

Picture
In 2015 our rescue received a call from the Humane Society in Baldwin County, AL about 2 two dogs that were seized from a home after living in the most horrid conditions one could imagine.  The local newspaper reported, “Deputies were originally at the mobile home to arrest the 44-year-old man for charges of public intoxication and drug paraphernalia possession. But when they went inside the home to question him, they had to come right back out because of the overwhelming stench.  Black mold lined the walls and feces mixed with garbage lined the floor.  Upon further questioning, they learned that his wife was living there as well and also had outstanding warrants.  Their 14 year old son was taken into custody and ultimately turned over to a family member.”  Also living amidst the filth and excrement were 2 dogs and 10 cats. Our rescue took the two dogs, Celeste & Celine, and found them forever a home together.

Fast forward seven years to March of 2022, and we find the nincompoops at it again.  However this time, investigators found 50 dogs living in the residence, which was full of urine, feces, and household trash.  The dogs were removed from the trailer and transported to an animal shelter.   The dogs taken from the trailer included 35 adult dogs, 9 six-week-old puppies and 6 four-week-old puppies.

SGRR has taken in three of the dogs who needed the most TLC and socialization.  These sweet souls appear to be Golden mixes of one sort or another.  They range in ages from 2-4 years.  The shelter named them Pluto, Donald, & Mickey.  It seems none has ever had a bath - and many had to be washed numerous times to rid their bodies of the feces they lived in.  They were not well socialized, and they currently miss the only life they have known, as sad as it was.  All needed to be neutered,  brought up-to-date on vaccinations, but miraculously, none were heartworm positive.  With patience and kindness they will soon learn that life can be so much better!

As each dog becomes available for adoption, we will post their stories with a link below.  Pluto is the first of the three to be ready to be adopted.
