Argiro

Picture
"Some of my best leading men have been dogs," stated Elizabeth Taylor.  We think she would have fallen head over heels for hunky Argiro!  Picked up as a stray in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana, this 2-year-old Retriever/Shepherd mix is ready to find his forever home.

One of the main volunteers in AL shares, "Argiro seems interested in other dogs when they walk by his kennel but is not aggressive.  I walked him on a leash today for about 30 min and he pulled at first, but after he got a few laps of the big yard in, he did better. He's very curious and lots of smelling and sniffing, of course. While initially unsure of what pets were about, he let me pet him and drew closer to me today than he has before. He loves attention so I think in time, he’ll discover the joy of belly rubs!"

"Argiro’s a very sweet boy and rarely has an accident in his kennel. He has good manners and walks back in to run without balking or running off like some of the pups do.  He has massive paws and kind, friendly eyes.   He really doesn’t bark much and wags his tail like crazy.  He needs a big yard as those legs can cover the yard at the clinic quickly!"

It appears that Argiro did not know when or where his next meal would come from in his past life, and is underweight at 53 lbs, and we feel he could use about 10-15 additional pounds of groceries in his belly.  Thinking back to his neglectful past that caused him to be so thin, it is not surprising that Argiro is a bit overly enthusiastic when taking a treat from the hand, so we are working on teaching Argiro to use a gentle mouth.  He will continue to blossom into a fabulous companion with an active and dedicated adopter.

Argiro has been neutered, brought up-to-date on vaccinations, and micro-chipped.  He is under heartworm treatment and should be ready to go north to be directly adopted in late may-early June.  Argiro has been given a Proheart-6 injection for 6 months of heartworm prevention.

If the companion you are hoping to add to your life is one that is deeply trusting, happy, and loyal, then look no further - you've found him!!!   If you are approved to adopt through SGRR, please contact please  Cheryl to be considered to adopt Argiro.  If you are not yet approved, please visit our website to fill out an application!

Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to take on whatever comes with the dog. It is up to YOU to continue the rehabilitation we have begun. This is what it means to rescue.
